The artist Paul Mc Carthy (born 1945) has a multi-faceted practice that attempts to move beyond the limitations of painting, bringing in humor in a variety of media ranging from performance to photography to sculpture. Torn apart during a performance in 1972, the Ken figurine was stored in a suitcase along with other performance objects, exhibited in 1983 and then photographed in 1995.
