Northwest x Southwest: Painted Fictions emphasizes artists who use figurative representation to convey a message or story. We have chosen to group together seventy-two paintings by twenty artists from the southwestern region of the United States and twenty painters from the northwestern region, all of whom have incorporated narration in their paintings. All works reveal their maker's visual fascination for artful stories through the use of recognizable images. Some of the artist included are Guy Anderson, John Buck, John Hernandez, Alden Mason, Jacob Lawrence, Peter Saul, Richard Thompson.
